PEI Woman in Business
Women Helping Women Succeed in Business
PEIBWA is a non-profit organization that represents business women Island wide. Its mandate is to assist women in business to succeed by providing services and programs to meet their objectives.

Whether you are launching a business in the heart of the city or expanding operations somewhere on a country road, your ability to access information, training and counselling – when you need it and where you need it - will be critical to your success. By offering you individual attention the PEIBWA will facilitate your journey through the steps of starting or growing you business.

Services
Business Counselling and Community Outreach Program
This program is designed to provide one-on-one support to women-owned businesses across the region. We will link up women business owners with information, contacts and currently available support services in the region, serving a critical liaison and "pathfinding" function.
 

 
Resources
 
The PEIBWA maintains this public web site, as well as a Member Intranet, to provide a variety of resources to our members. Members have the opportunity to be listed in the searchable, online Member Directory. In addition, we feature a Member of the Month on the site. On the Member Intranet, members are able to update their profile; view and post jobs, résumés, leads, questions and answers on a discussion forum; participate in an e-matchmaking service; and learn more about or participate in a mentoring service. A resource section is available with links to online information and business tools.

The PEIBWA communicates with its members through an online news section on the Intranet, as well as a quarterly newsletter.
 

 
Mentoring Program
The PEIBWA delivers a mentoring program to assist its members in the area of the development and growth of women owned business. Members have access to mentoring guidelines on the Member Intranet and can sign up as mentor or mentee to be matched during an off-line process.
 

 
Advocacy
The PEIBWA is a voice for business women in Prince Edward Island. Our goal, as an advocate, is to encourage constructive change in issues affecting business women, specifically in areas such as access to financing, government legislation, and social issues. Through our members, and our active outreach to business women across the Island, we strive to reflect the concerns of business women regardless of whether they own a business, work in business or would like to return to or enter the business world.

Special Projects
Red White and Blues 6
Red White & Blues was held on October 16, 2009 at the Top of the Park Restaurant and the Red Shores Racetrack & Casino in Charlottetown. Many of our supporters came out for a night of red & white wine and some blues music performed by the Bourbon Street Blues Band.

Red White & Blues is our annual fundraiser for the Association. Monies raised at this event is used to make our monthly events more educational and fun.

2008 Women in Business Symposium

The PEI Business Women's Association hosted the 8th Women in Business Symposium - Connect, Learn, Grow on May 20th & 21st in Summerside.

The symposium opened on the evening of May 20th with a dinner at the Loyalist Lakeview Resort which featured a keynote address by renowned speaker, motivational trainer, facilitator and author Carol Lesbirel entitled "Who Says You Can't - Dodging Flying Saucers".

The symposium continued with plenary and breakout sessions throughout the day on May 21st at Credit Union Place. Highlights of the second day included a luncheon with keynote address presented by athlete, performer and inspirational speaker Terry Kelly; a morning plenary session on leadership led by Audie McCarthy, founder and president of The Marrek Group; and an afternoon plenary session on managing the four generations in the workplace led by Carol Lesbirel. In addition, there was a choice of breakout sessions on topics including innovation, marketing, networking and accessing financing.

The event attracted business women from across the Island and assisted in helping them connect with others to learn skills and gain insight into how they can grow their business.

PEIBWA Board of Directors, Staff and Symposium Planning Committee members look forward to next year's event!

Red White & Blues was held on October 26, 2007 at the MacKenzie Theatre, here in Charlottetown. Many of our supporters came out for a night of red & white wine and some blues music.

2009 Women in Business Symposium
The PEI Business Women's Association hosted the 9th Women in Business Symposium - Inspire, Innovate, Ignite on May 20th & 21st in Charlottetown.

The symposium opened May 12th with a keynote address by renowned speaker, Toni Newman of The Innovation Advantage entitled "Innovation as a Competitive Advantage."

The symposium continued with plenary and breakout sessions throughout the day on May 21st at Credit Union Place. Highlights of the second day included a luncheon with keynote address presented by CBC Journalist Wendy Mesley; morning breakout sessions by Louis-Phillipe Gauthier (Social Media Marketing), and a French Language session with Jeanette Arsenault (What Does Success Look Like); an afternoon breakout session on Time Management led by Colette Robicheau, and an afternoon plenary session led by Pete Luckett entitled "The Gift of Change - Embracing Challenge."

The evening continued with the first annual Women in Business Awards reception, in which three island business women were recognized for their outstanding achievements.

The event attracted business women from across the Island and assisted in helping them connect with others to learn skills and gain insight into how they can grow their business.
